About this place

The Cerros de Amotape National Park preserves more than 150,000 hectares of critical biological transition, where the Equatorial Dry Forest meets the Pacific Tropical Forest. The El Caucho sector represents its scientific core, home to the mantled howler monkey (Alouatta palliata), jaguars, giant ceibos, and flowering guayacanes. Access requires 4x4 vehicles.

How to get there

From Tumbes via Rica Playa / El Caucho axis (36 km, approx. 1 h 20 min in 4x4 vehicle).

  • Trekking through Quebrada Las Pavas and giant ceibos
  • Wildlife spotting (mantled howler monkey, jaguar, neotropical otter)
  • Canoeing and sport fishing in Bocana Carrillo along the Tumbes River
