About this place

The Los Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary protects 2,972 hectares of rare aquatic halophyte forest where marine currents meet the Gulf of Guayaquil. Administered by SERNANP, entry is coordinated through the El Algarrobo checkpoint. The sanctuary shelters 148 bird species, the endangered American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), and the mangrove raccoon, alongside traditional black clam (Anadara tuberculosa) extractors.

How to get there

Located 30 km north of Tumbes city via Panamericana Norte to Zarumilla, then access road to El Algarrobo control post.
