About this place

The World Ecopoetry Festival, traditionally held in the last week of August, turns Tumbes into a global forum for environmental defense. Under the tireless drive of Tumbes writers such as Félix Hugo Noblecilla Purizaga, poets from Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Germany, Italy and Thailand converge on the region to share works that denounce planetary deterioration and promote conservation.

The decentralization of venues is a strategic success: conferences and street parades are distributed between Tumbes Main Square, the Municipality auditorium, the Cabeza de Vaca Monumental Archaeological Zone in Corrales and the viewpoints of the Cerros de Amotape National Park in Rica Playa. This fusion of archaeological heritage, botanical richness and poetic activism reaffirms the cultural maturity of the department.
