Anniversary of the Political Creation of the Tumbes Department
Foundational milestone of the region with parade and serenades.
The Anniversary of the Battle of Zarumilla is commemorated every June 24th, when the whole department turns its historical gaze to this milestone recalling the 1941 Peruvian-Ecuadorian armed conflict. The day pays honors to the greatest hero of the national military aviation, José Abelardo Quiñones.
The ceremonies of this day include armed forces parades and floral offerings, and are vital for keeping alive the memory of sovereignty and resilience among the border populations.
It takes place in the city of Zarumilla, capital of Zarumilla province, at the northern tip of the Tumbes department.
